Worthy Broz
The Sun's Thursday columnist Kelvin MacKenzie has a photo of former 007 Pierce Brosnan with below heading of YOU'RE NOT WORTH IT, PIERCE.
The item opens ..
"I have no idea how much Pierce Brosnan was paid by L'Oreal to promote their male skin products on television. Whatever he was offered, he should have turned it down. According to my women friends, Brosnan may not have been the best James Bond but was certainly the most handsome. So what on earth made him agree to use the line: "You're worth it." at the end of the ad. ...
He goes on to argue that British guys are 'worthless' with pub, mates, football & watching tv demands but when seeing this American commercial I do crack up/laughing everytime because I thought Pierce was anti-cosmetics like hair dye but skin cream is ok ? Why is he charging down a beach on a horse ? Strange way of telling us of his mentioned environment concerns.
Hey Broz don't sell-out, as you once said about playing 007: "... leaving with a bit of dignity" ( 14/02 ).
The paper's SUN WOMAN has an item titled HETERO v METRO which compares two types of men and included in the Metro man section is a small photo of Brosnan but not stated due to the advert. So Broz, you're a Metro man now ! ( 19/02 ).
In the paper's letter section the last one with smiling grey hair photo of Pierce has reader Sarah Moore ( not Rog's daughter ! ) of Reading writing: "It does nothing for me to see sexy Pierce Brosnan, advertising L'Oreal skin care products. He should have had a bevy of beauties applying the products for him, though that would have been more 007." Too true !
If I was Pierce next time filming in homeland Ireland and he pops in the pub for a quick Guinness, I would keep my head down when ordering with likely shouts/replies of "Why ? Are you worth it !" ( 20/02 ).
Bean Home & Wed
During January: on The Sun's tv page has a small section devoted to GE actor "Sean Bean [who] has asked TV bosses to ship out a huge consignment of steak and kidney pies when he flies to the subcontinent in March to film Sharpe's Peril." I remember the Sheffield actor doing this on his last trip to India and he confesses: "Fray Bentos pies are my guilty pleasure." Sounds like another commerical voice-over Sean ? ( 31/01)
A week earlier a b&w photo of the actor appeared over heading of Cottage? It's Bean flogged, the five paragraph item tells of how he "stunned a woman selling her two-bed cottage for £149,500 - by buying it for cash." The seller was told by the estate agent: "Expect a surprise when you find out who's interested." She opened the door to see Sean & actress girl-friend Georgina Sutcliffe and recalled: "He just walked through the door and said, 'Hi, I'm Sean'. He wanted my place for peace and quiet." She "took them for a drink at the next-door pub in Sheffield." Aah home is where the heart is for our Sean .. especially with a nearby pub ( 24/01 ).
During February: congrats to Sean & Georgina who "finally got wed yesterday after calling off his fourth marriage. [They] cancelled the original ceremony last month with a day to go." A small kissing couple photo appears over column heading of TV Sean marries No4 ...finally at Marylebone Register Office in North London .. "actress Georgina, 29, [wore] a 1940s-style black pencil skirt and white blouse." The 48 year old actor is quoted afterwards: "fantastic." ( 20/02 ).
James Bond News: Miscellaneous
- Noticed the following Bond related items in The Sun ...
- Carried over from last month the paper's column The Whip has a smiling photo of "former James Bond beauty Fiona Fullerton, who played Pola Ivanova in AVTAK, is now a successful property consultant."
She is mentioned as "James [not that James !], her 18-year-old son ..[is] flaunting his bottom in a green "under and over" Borat-style fluorescent swimming costume" on Facebook. Attention-seeking is he ? ( 30/01 )
- Some Bond related to start the month ...
- In the motoring section more about Scalextric "who unveiled ..[a] blue and orange Gulf DBR9 at the London Toy Fair on Wednesday - just days after Aston Martin announced the tie-up for the 2008 Le Mans 24-hour race." The item ends that "a series of James Bond Quantum Of Solace sets will hit shops in October in time for the film premiere." I wonder if the appeal is the same now for these model slot cars due to time setting up compared to better realism on a video racing game.
- At the top of The Whip column a colour photo of "Frisky GE star Alan Cumming [who] has been living it up in New York. Partying at the Le Royale lounge recently, the 007 actor [hey he didn't play Bond !] jumped on the low-hanging disco ball in the middle of the room and swung on it until it ripped from the ceiling. ..Cumming grabbed the [fallen] ball and clutching it .. sprayed the other partygoers with a bottle of Christal champagne." Item ends "Way to go, Al", perhaps the way to the exit by management ?
- A photo of smiling photo of Gemma Arterton from Press Day appears under SneakLeak in the new movies section which tells that "New Bond film Quantum Of Solace will feature great action - outside and inside the bedroom .. including an affair with Agent Fields played by Gemma." Craig's quote of "Bond misbehaves more and gets some romance." is used again ( 01/02 ).
- Another three ...
- Under heading of STARS 'N STRIPES a small photo of Pierce 007 Brosnan who was among the celebrities to watch Thursday's night TV battle between Hilary Clinton & Barack Obama in a Los Angeles tv studio. The serious looking actor was attentive along with Steven Spielberg & Leonardo Di Caprio.
NB. This celebrity election connection was later an item on Film 2008 With Jonathan Ross ( BBC-1, Tues 23:25 04/03 ) with Broz seen in the audience.
- A preview of the cover of lads mag FHM is seen with a forward posing photo of new Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko under heading of 007 OLGA'S A BIT VULGAR because she "loves POLE DANCING. The actress, 28, said she likes strip clubs and has no problem going naked for roles. And now she is SINGLE." Nice to know and any Bond related cover sells more.
- In the entertainment section the photo of Craig looking down at his iPod during filming the end of Casino Royale is used with section heading of FOR YOUR iPOD ONLY the actor reveals his musical tastes and reveals: "I have about 5,000 songs on my iPod. It's very eclectric - anything from Kate Bush to The Raconteurs. I like iPod shuffle. But it can be nerve-racking if anyone is around. When something dodgy comes on, like Grease, you're like, 'Nooo!' and dive to switch to the next tune. I also quite like German heavy metal - like the band Die Toten Hosen." Sorry Dan I tuned out midway ! ( 02/02 ).
- Blink and you miss a paragraph titled OWE OWE 7 which tells of "New Bond Girl Gemma Arterton, 22, [who] says she is still paying off her student loan - and buys clothes from Primark." Things are gonna change ( 04/02 ).

Last seen on tv entertaining guests on cooking programme Come Dine With Me ( C4 ), Sarah is quoted "It's the ultimate challenge." The item is captioned BEWARE .. WOMAN DRIVER DOING 800mph with photos of the vehicle ( shades of DAD's Graves' snow dragster ), a smiling driver and her Thames boat stunt. Good Luck Sarah ! ( 09/02 ).

The electric-powered car is "open top to make escape easy in an emergency" and the designers include Bond fan Frank Rinderknect who said the car was "a dream come true." Perhaps a wet one ? ( 15/02 ).
- A small serious photo of Daniel Craig appears over four paragraph heading of Gun riot hits 007 which tells "RIOTERS have hit the filming of the new James Bond movie .. which is being made near the Presidential Palace in Panama City. Tiff won the speed challenge with admiration from the stunt driver who mentioned more action for the car in the new movie ( 11/02 ).
