Becoming Bond ( ITV2, 23:30 )
This half hour documentary was made by Eon's usual choice of Special Treats Productions who have a monopoly of past Bond movie docs. Unshaven & suited Craig talks in empty studio about getting the role and we see the Press Launch Day again when he jokingly suggested that he should have worn those kids orange arm rings instead of criticised lifejacket. A lot was covered into this interesting Casino Royale special which is repeated twice next Wednesday ( see Bond Diary & ITV2, 17:15 ). One small error Dr No was released in 1962 ( not '63 as narrated ) otherwise what was all the fuss about in 2002 !
- Dateline: 09/11/06

Contributions from Daniel Craig, Michael G Wilson ( who found the abandoned hotel building in the Bahamas when making TSWLM ), stunt co-ordinator Gary Powell and s/fx Chris Corbould. The final two captions confirmed the DBS stunt roll which was seen in slow-motion was confirmed by Guinness as a world record on the 5th November ... and not to try it at home ! The Real Casino Royale ( BBC4, 21:00 )
A really interesting hour documentary with the presenter looking into 'roots' of the novel Casino Royale and Ian Fleming. He dressed up in tux&tie, went to the original Casino in Northern France where he was shown how to play the book poker game and later drove a Bentley Charger. Archive b&w footage of Fleming at his Jamaican home of Goldeneye and working collegues at that time, interviews with two lady cousin relatives, Daniel Craig ( at his home ? with rear window piano ), Christopher Lee & C R director Campbell. Clips were used wisely from b&w tv version with Barry Nelson as Jimmy Bond, casino movie footage from the spoof with Sellers, Andress & Orson Wells and similar clips from the latest version including Craig putting on the tux and opening of torture scene. The documentary finished with presenter playing golf at Fleming's Kent course and visiting the family grave ( with no mention of 007 ) and the ending comment ".. no one lives forever except Bond, James Bond." Worthy of a future BBC-1 showing.
- Dateline: 20/11/06
Fifth Gear ( five, 20:00 )
The motoring programme had a follow-up when co-host Tim Lovejoy interviewed Daniel Craig on press junket day and talked motors. Craig admitted testing/learning to drive DBS twice, doing do-nuts and getting up to 150 in the new Bond car but hasn't been offered one - not even with discount like Rog. He would like one but currently doesn't have a garage ! Clips of both cars ( Ford Mondeo was just a prototype/shell ) were shown.
