 Recovering Roger ...

Unwell Roger

What a difference a week makes, today's Daily Mail has a photo of a smiling Roger & wife Kiki arriving at Nice Airport.
This time last week he was on the front page of The Sun with an inside page exclusive of 007 STAR MOORE'S ON-STAGE COLLAPSE - Rushed to hospital in oxygen mask. A larger b&w photo of Roger, still in costume, appeared being wheeled to a New York ambulance and another smaller one of him on stage in The Play That I Wrote.
While in hospital, he was given a heart pacemaker and later blood thinning tablets for his flight to London and on to Nice. The Bond star, now 75 was lucky and should now treat his health more seriously but when asked about any doctor's orders at the airport he replied "Yes - keep paying the electricity bill !" - reference to his pacemaker - "the tiny battery device was inserted under his skin. The 007 actor only had a local anaesthetic."
Joking aside Roger, enjoy your South of France break with friends and rest well.

 Promote Another Day 2 ..

Smith Bond Block Bond

As mentioned last month stores are finding different ways to promote the UK release of DAD on DVD and VHS. WH Smith [ my former BS ISP ] are using feature details of the DVD in their advert ( seen left ) that appears in the papers today and while checking the prices on Friday Blockbuster are using close-ups of the poster for their free magazine ( seen right ). Inside is a two page feature titled Shaken not stirred, like the mag's bottom heading not that original !

 Miscellaneous ...

    Dull Berry
  1. A photo ( seen right ) of Bond babe Halle Berry walking on set of her movie Gothika in Montreal appears in The Sun, which gives the page length photo a heading of Who the Halle is that ? with sub-heading of X-MEN BEAUTY'S SHOCK FOR FANS. Berry plays a "criminal psychologist put in an asylum accused of murder". The paper re-uses her 'look' quote from last month, personally I still prefer her 'orange bikini look' ( 03/05 ).
  2. The NOTW's Sunday magazine has an Injury time item about stars called Pain in the arts.... Each circled photo star is lined to a part of a plastic body showing the internal damaged location. Three of the victims have Bond connections: Pierce & Halle are chosen for their DAD injuries ( Brosnan's knee & Berry's eye ) and LTK's Benicio Del Toro for a broken wrist while filming The Hunted ( 04/05 ).
  3. According to The Sun's motoring expert "Ford are axing the Thunderbird after a sales slump..." despite being "driven by Halle Berry in the last Bond movie .. not even 007 could save it" ( 09/05 ).

  4. The NOTW has used a b&w version of the final DAD scene of Pierce & Halle ( see right ) with heading of SHHH.. FANCY A JOB? Tum tum tum ta ta .. The exclusive opens "WANT to be the next James Bond? British Intelligence is recruiting more than a thousand extra secret agents. ..." Two banners run across the photo - top of M15 and M16 recruiting 1,200 spies ( don't they mean MI5 and MI6 ? ) & bottom and more amusing of Good pay and conditions plus perks. The two column item explains the "10 year expansion plan" and ends "Graduate level entrants start at £19k - but you won't get to work with Halle Berry!" Well of course not ! ( 11/05 )
  5. The Sun has a small two column item titled A LICENCE TO SPILL! which tells of "a car salesman [who] wrote off a £160,000 Aston Martin Vanquish ... after taking it for a spin. The dealer lost control of the limited edition V12 and piled into a tree near his showroom in Exeter, Devon. He was unhurt but the 6-litre green coupe - 0-60mph in five seconds with a top speed of 190mph - suffered "extensive damage" in the spill. There are only 300 of the cars in Britain and the worldwide waiting list is 18 months." The item ends mentioning that one of the DAD's Astons "fetched £210,500 at auction in Newport Pagnell, Bucks on Saturday" ( 14/05 ).
  6. While in Bexleyheath, picked up to 2 more Bond library books for review purposes and also brought James Bond The Legacy in WH Smith. Originally out at £35, I've seen discounted versions at £30 and later £20 but when I saw a pile of them at £10 each I thought "Bargain!" Also intended seeing Halle & Famke in X2 at the cinema, brought the ticket but walked into The Matrix Reloaded and saw that instead ! Hey they both started at the same time and the lights were out - LTK's Anthony Zerbe was among the cast ( 22/05 ).
  7. Smile for me ..
  8. The Sun reports on the annual FHM magazine's 100 sexiest woman with a heading of HALLE STORMS IT that Bond babe & "X-Men 2 star Halle Berry was yesterday named the world's sexiest woman - the oldest to win the title at 34." She told the mag "I'm not so sure I live up to it.", when asked about her sexiest body part she replied "My feet." Nice to see that 2 of my three votes didn't go to waste - my 3rd choice of petite Smallville tv star Kristin Kreuk came in at 17 but my 2nd 'wild card' choice of Page 3 Zoe ( refer to last year's Andress tribute photo ) was alas not in the printed top 20 list ( 23/05 ).
  9. Just when you thought 007 had seen the back of a German motor, The Sun's motoring section has a photo of a Vanquish at a Motor Show and news that "the 5.9-litre V12 [engine] .. will be built at the Cologne [ Germany ] plant of Aston owners Ford from the end of next year - ending production in Northampton [ UK ]" ( 30/05 ).

  10. BOND DIARY:
    • Birthday Boy
    • BIRTHDAYS: May 16: Pierce Brosnan ( 50 ) & May 28: Ian Fleming ( would have been 95 ! ).
