Magazine Reviews featuring Tomorrow Never Dies

Abbreviations used ... TND - Tomorrow Never Dies & FRWL - From Russia With Love

    007 TND mag 33 007 mag 32 TND Official Mag 007 mag 31

  1. 007 Mag 33 ... the last issue concentrated on the narrative of TND but this issue looks at behind the scenes with locations' shots & storyboards. The mag also features TND's 2 premieres, press & media coverage and promotional spin-offs for the film.
Good to see the return of the Bond Babe, fan letters and the Classic Scene. I liked the From the Archive (1963), one page item on FRWL with the search for a Bond girl and photos of unknowns testing for the part. As the film features one of my favourite Bond babes Daniela Bianchi, it's a must read along with a photo of British actress Barbara Jefford who provided her voice.
I was disappointed with the 6 page Let the Mayhem Begin on Bond villains, writer Mark Hazard's personal menace ratings on each one proved like his review of David Arnold's TND's music score to be alittle off ! ( see the printed fans' letters to prove this point on Arnold's good score). This feature should have been trimmed by a page or two with smaller graphics and perhaps another page given to the fans' letters - well it is their Club !
Last year's Christie's auction is mentioned along with an advert, calling it Bond Day in London. Yet again editor Graham Rye has provided another interesting addition to the 007 magazine collection.

  2. 007 Mag 32 ... this 48 page issue is a TND Special from the Club with loads of colour & b/w photos from the film. The centre-fold is the UK poster of TND or choose the reverse of a large photo of 007 & Wai Lin preparing for Carver on the fishing junk. The film's story is the main feature along with details of the cast, locations & gadgets ( some with their normal prices to buy .. alas without the 007 gadgetry ). As you work your way through the narrative, the accompanying photos have captions explaining when and where the scenes were shot. Tag photo captions explaining The Locations, The Bad Guys, The Bond Girls & The Bond Look appear on most pages to add further info about our favourite film of the moment.
Missing from the Double-0 Seven magazine is the usual editorial from Club President, Graham Rye which is strange as this is the fans' magazine unlike the official TND magazine.

  3. Official Mag of TND ... slightly cheaper than some of the other books etc. around at the time, this movie publication from Titan Magazines has some great cast photos and stories from the production team. Other features include Secret History about Bond's 35 years on the big screen. A 'must buy' for the Bond Collection.

  4. 007 Mag 31 ... this issue ( numbered but never dated .. perhaps for longer shelf life ? ) has a star-studded tribute to Cubby Broccoli and items about TND. Some new features are added like the Bond Babe ( who is seen on many a 007 website ) and another called Classic Scene looking at that "damn Beretta" scene from Dr. No.
There is also a look back at the last Club Members' Xmas Lunch and two reports from the James Bond Festival in Jamaica. Editor & Club President Graham Rye has produced another fine edition for all Bond fans.

FYI: The 007 Magazine is no longer a publication of JBIFC.
