Magazine Reviews featuring Die Another Day
|
Abbreviation used:
DAD - Die Another Day, TWINE - The World Is Not Enough, TND - Tomorrow Never Dies,
OCT - Octopussy & TSWLM - The Spy Who Loved Me.
These UK magazines dated October '02 stake their claims for early DAD previews.
- Bond The Legend: 1962-20002 with Empire Issue 161 UK Price: £ 3.00
The November edition of the film magazine have published an extra magazine about 007.
On the front of the plastic wrapper cover it's described as a HUGE FREE BOND BOOK - BONDS, BABES, BADDIES .. but
it's actually 24 pages of excellent content looking at 40 years of Bond.
The pages have a red header ( left: '007' right: a small movie quote e.g. "Are you just looking for shells?" "No I'm just looking".
Here is my breakdown of each page ( numbered 001 etc. ) ...
Page
- Front page - see right.
- B&W photo of Connery & Andress larking around on the beach - Dr No
- Thank you letter from EON signed by Brosnan.
- Ian Fleming the spymaster with b&w photo of author holding his For Your Eyes Only book.
- A look at his life and books plus column of The Secret Life Of 007 - radio, comics etc.
Most pages have a DO YOU EXPECT ME TO TALK? [DYEMTT?] insert, first to go Christopher Lee with questions and answers.
- Sean Connery the original - b&w photo on Fort Knox set of Goldfinger.
- Profile of actor plus with each 007 a column titled BOND ON BOND [BOB] another Q&A.
- The Directors more Q&A's with Hamilton and Gilbert.
- The Best of Bonds: Sets - designer Ken Adam looks at 6 of his sets.
- George Lazenby the one-off - b&w photo.
- Profile of actor plus BOB and DYEMTT? - Jane Seymour.
- Roger Moore the joker - b&w Moonraker photo.
- Profile of actor plus BOB and DYEMTT? - Richard Kiel.
- The Big Four-O - forty facts about 007 movies.
- The Best of Bonds: Music - composer John Barry looks at 8 pieces and DYEMTT? - Jill St. John.
- Timothy Dalton the dark side - b&w TLD photo of thoughtful Tim.

- Double page colour photo titled James Bond will return in Die Another Day
- DAD photo has Bond aiming a gun at a 'patient Zao'.
- Back page with all 20 film posters including DAD - see right.
A must and bargain buy for your Bond mag collection.
- Starburst Issue 290 UK Price £ 3.50
As you see the cover is a montage of 3 images: gun posing Pierce, Halle in dress and DB7 in Iceland.
The opening contents page has a large photo of suit & tie Brosnan from the film, the 8 page report opens on page 23 with double page Brosnan in open shirt profile with blue gun barrel and ice landscape background.
The item titled Bond ambition has writer David Richardson visiting the Pinewood set to meet director Lee Tamahori, stars Pierce & Halle, designer Peter Lamont and producer Michael G Wilson.
Add-on page items with quotes from writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, visual effects supervisor Mara Bryan and 2nd unit director Vic Armstrong.
Most of the colour photos have been seen on the net along with photos from Bond 20 Press Day.
There are some interesting revelations from Tamahori, Wilson diffuses the Madonna scene and Halle explains her running skills.
Elsewhere you will find a multimedia page devoted to James Bond sites and the sci-fi magazine has kindly included 007 B S.
Also a six page item on Harryhausen's Jason and the Argonauts with an insert item titled Honor and obey about actress Honor Blackman who played Hera and has a pic of her as Goldfinger's Pussy Galore.
In the News section a small tribute to Bond director & editor Peter Hunt who sadly died in August.
- Total Film Issue 69 UK Price £ 3.00
The nice couple on the cover won me over more than the content. On the inside contents page the same gun posing Pierce photo appears.
The movie magazine has a large section devoted to the forthcoming Blockbusters, DAD opens the section with 2 and a bit pages of text and photos different to Starburst.
Also includes an item called FACE TO FACE WITH ... writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
Elsewhere in the 170 page magazine you will find an interview with Bond baddie Robert Carlyle plugging Once Upon A Time In The Midlands
and when asked about choosing "social worth" movies - then why TWINE ? ( gun-shooting photo of him as Renard appears ) He replies ..
".. But Bond you'd do for free, because it's part of history.
I remember seeing Sean Connery when I was a wee boy and loving Bond.
And Donald Pleasance, all these great actors who played villains through the years .. What an honour, to be asked."
Another interview item is with Oscar winner Tom Hanks plugging Road To Perdition, asked about playing a bad guy he reveals ..
".. an out-and-out villain? .. if I was doing it for the sake of it. I'd play a bad guy in a Bond film. [.. better Bond than a Bond villain ?]
I wanted to be James Bond when I was growing up. I've always wanted to be James Bond."
- Sunday Times: Licence To Thrill UK price free with paper pack £1.40
Having seen the tv promotion for this 'exclusive' souvenir magazine, I was expecting another glossy production as for TWINE.
Instead produced "in partnership with" my ISP's Broadband service, we get a smaller, grainer 40 page mag with 2 models, wearing too much mascara for my liking, donning the cover
which promises GROOVY GIRLS, BAD GUYS, AND CLARKSON ON THE CARS.
The inside page opens with an advert next to a red Moore gun barrel contents page listing the 7 features:
- LICENCE TO DRIVE - first 2 pages are given to tv Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson posing next to the Aston on the ice palace set.
Next 2 pages have Clarkson's realistic and amusing look at 007 motors with photos of the DB5, Volante, Lotus Esprit & the Vanquish displaying missiles and guns.
About the latter, he recalls "In real life, this, the latest and snazziest Aston of them all, is plagued with problems.
The clutch gives up the ghost if you attempt a full-bore standing start, and in town the differential feels like it's trying to hammer its way into the boot."
About James' original Aston, he believes "unlike Ursula Andress, the Aston Martin DB5 still looks fresh today".
- BUM STEERS - aided by movie photos and posters Clarkson looks at 007 other motors and reveals the real driving experience.
His victims are DAF's Ford Mustang, GE's tank, TLD's Aston Martin V8, OCT's rickshaw & Alfa Romeo GTV6, TND's BMW 750, TWINE's BMW Z8, TSWLM's Lotus Esprit and finally FYEO's Citroen 2CV.
- THE SEX PACK - 6 pages devoted to the Bond Girls - some not 007 pics of the ladies.
- SINNING WAY - 4 pages of interviews & photos with DAD's villains played by Rick Yune and Toby Stephens.
- THE ROAD AHEAD - Clarkson suggests some future motors for our secret agent like his winner, Alfa Romeo Brera.
- FOR YOUR THIGHS - 6 pages of the cover models posing with the DB5 - a wasted page filler.
- ROUGH DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - first 2 pages show the green Jag crashing into the palace's ice floor.
Next 3 pages is devoted to stunt co-ordinator, Vic Armstrong's career and connection with 007.
Interviewed during filming at Pinewood.
I found this mag somewhat disappointing and lacking especially after the better produced mag for TWINE.
Also I noticed some of the photos are credited to EON PRODUCTIONS/JBIFC, has there been a union of sources ?
The following November '02 UK released magazines have DAD previews.
- Empire Issue 162 UK Price: £ 3.00
Since last month's magazine advert of cocktail glass with vodka martini recipe I have been looking forward to this issue.
The blue Berry/Brosnan guns down poster is on their Main Features page and a few pages later the editor explains why there's no movie review despite the Brosnan front cover.
On page 46, Kim Newman's Horror Trilogy has 3 tricky Bond teasers.
In the Reviews section, previews of DAD and the new Harry Potter movie ( reviews next issue ).
It's on page 82 that the DAD section opens with a large page heading of
BIGGER BETTER BOLDER BADDER BOND with each large black word on a new line and the last one double red size next to a page of gun-up holding Brosnan colour photo.
Their writer goes behind the scenes aided by photos in a nine page report and blue segments titled
PAY ATTENTION, 007 ( "nods to Bond history" ),
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH ( "Toby Stephens: Arch-Nemesis" ),
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER ( "Rick Yune: Gangster No.2" ),
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME ( "Rosamund Pike: Undercover Agent" ),
UNSEEN BOND ( "five great Fleming scenes yet to be filmed" ) and
THE USUAL SUSPECTS ( a joking look at the future ).
One segment is given a full page with a b&w 2/3 page photo of Berry in swimsuit and heading of FOR YOUR EYES ONLY ( "Halle Berry: Undercover Cop" ).
Finally Numero Uno is a 3 page interview with Brosnan plus a b&w page photo of star relaxing on set in his fencing gear.
In the RETAIL ROUND-UP section the James Bond Collection Box Set is given a 4 ( out of 5 ) star rating at "a bit pricey" £199.99.
- Film Review Issue 624 UK Price: £ 3.00
The Page 3 contents page opens with Brosnan & Berry press launch photo and his quote ..
"Ask me the highlight of my Bond tenure to date and working with Halle would come top of the list ...".
Move on to the new movies section with double page opening with Brosnan gun posing photo "Bond is mine now ..."
and their writer goes behind the scenes of DAD with a nine page report aided by colour photos and 007 AT 40 segments.
The latter looks at each Bond actor with same 5 top square photos with featured actor in colour and narrative taken from co-author Jim Smith's Bond Films.
The final page is given to "the youngest ever Bond villain, Toby Stephens" with heading of GRAVES MATTER and serious posing photo of the actor.
Due to publishing limits, there is no DAD movie review ( next isssue 625 ) but a 2 ( out of 5 ) star review of Membery's revised bio of Pierce Brosnan.
Also in the home entertainment section is a 4 star review of compilation CD called The Best of Bond ... James Bond.
- Mail On Sunday's Night & Day UK Price: free with paper £1.10
Unlike The Sunday Times's smaller effort, this measures 13.5" x 10.5" with Pierce on cover cleaning his gun.
Nearly all the photos ( mostly b&w ) featured are by Greg Williams who uses his old Leica cameras and has a book & exhibition called Bond On Set.
The magazine supplemented by adverts and a weekly tv/radio section is made up as follows:
Page

- 44-45: Unlike other superheroes, Bond is an equal opportunities' lover with double page B&J again relaxing at ice palace's bar.
- 46-47: colour version on set between shots, more of the 2 fooling around in Spain - think cigar.
- 48: BERRY ON BOND the actress talking about the role accompanied by orange bikini pose - out of water.
- 49: reminder of free film posters next week and £2 off another CD compilation.
- 50-52: CHILLS AND SPILLS - colour montage of car palace stunts plus orange ice dragsters.
- 54-55: BROSNAN ON BOND photo of Pierce relaxing in his DAD trailer with great end quote after hovercraft action ...
"I look across the set, see my [ 5 year-old ] son and think: 'This is fantastic, my boy is here.'
I do my best James Bond impersonation, run acrosss the set without tripping, and then I say to him: 'What did you think of that, Dylan? Did you like that?
He looks at me and says: 'Dad, are the cars all right? Can we go and see the cars?' "
- 56-57: DAD competitions including premiere tickets.
- 81: BEST SELLERS with 12 Top 10 tables with a few errors.
- 82: IT'S YOUR FUNERAL photo of YOLT's Blofeld with writer imagining 007's trip to heaven.
As the front cover suggests a must-have Collector's Edition.
- TV Times Issue 16-22 Nov UK Price: £ 0.72
As mentioned last month, the tv guide have published "4 special souvenir covers" with Connery, Moore, Brosnan and the above Timothy Dalton one with 4 different 007 photos.
Inside is a nine page tribute special opening with HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES heading, some pages having a 007 site web link - alas this site's not included.
The first two pages looks at the 007 tv special, Best Ever Bond with 10 scene photos.
These scenes have been voted in a poll to find the Best Bond moment.
Below is a section with host Roger Moore and cast actors picking their moments.
Next 2 pages has a Brosnan interview with heading of My wife doesn't care about my love scenes and a bottom section TO DIE FOR with DAD facts and 2 photos.
The following page and half has 40 things about BOND with Top 10 lists of songs, tv viewing figures, villains and gadgets.
IN THE PICTURE section has two pages of 10 Bond babes colour photos.
Final page has a Bond competition with 007 goodies.
Not part of the tribute is an adjacent Corgi toy car advert for their collection of 007 cars - the Aston looks strange.
These November UK released magazines have DAD previews.
- News Of The World's Bond is back 17 Nov UK Price: free with paper £0.65
Smaller than Sunday Times' effort, this FREE 24-PAGE BOND MAG measures 10" x 8.25", but same grainy paper.
To make matters worse on every 2 pages the colour photos are out of focus e.g. the girls photos appear to have drawn on moustaches due to being out of colour sync.
An original cover with relaxed Brosnan and Berry photo, inside mixed content ( due to colour print ) is as follows:
Page
- 3: opens with gun pointing Pierce photo and 007 returns heading with below supporting cast photos.
- 4-6: The action: 0h, do pay attention 007 .. with 6 DAD photos and BEHIND THE SCENES... fact column.

- 18-23: 40 years of Bond: The best of babes a photo gallery of Bond Girls with right columns of Bond: the facts....
A fun photo publication missing the advertised 'exclusive interviews' and spoiled by poor print quality.
- Total Film Issue 71 UK Price £ 3.00
I finally review the film magazine ( dated December ) with Brosnan & Berry on the cover again.
An editor mentioned on a tv programme that a front cover with Bond on it sells an extra 30,000 copies.
Meanwhile inside you find gun-aiming Moore b&w photo from TMWTGG on the contents page with the 40 YEARS OF BOND logo.
Adjacent page has colour photo of smiling, gun-holding Brosnan on set of DAD, seated in front of a film camera.
Further in, the Rough Cut: Dear Diary page mentions DAD's Nov 18 world premiere.
Later their Film EXCLUSIVE ON-SET ACCESS is titled SPY HARDER and breaks down as follows:
- 44-5) opens with double page of 5 colour photos.

- 58-9) Items with photos of THE MEN WHO MADE BOND: The Creator - Ian Fleming,
The Producer - Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli, The Musican - John Barry, The Designer - Ken Adam and The Stylist - director Terence Young.
Also an item titled I'll have a PPK please, Bob about quiz host Bob Holness who provided 007's voice for a radio play of Moonraker back in 1958.
The right column is the start of 40 007 facts called BONDOMANIA! [BM].
- 60) A tongue-in-cheek item called THUNDERBRAWL with 16 henchmen ( ? ) fighting each other.
The final's between TWINE's Renard and Blofeld's Cat ! BM continues.
- 62) THE WILDCARD 007 - GEORGE LAZENBY with colour photo of gun pointing and an 'exclusive interview' but no new answers.

- 72) FOR YOUR EYES ONLY looks at some Bond posters and gives thumb up or down to each one, BM concludes.
- 74-5) Q&A's with John Glen, Jane Seymour, Robert Carlyle and Michael G Wilson plus photos of each.
Nice one of Seymour fooling around with Holder in Jamaica.
- 76-77) More Q&A's with photos, this time Richard Kiel, Peter Lamont, Caroline Munro and Vic Armstrong.
- 78-9) An ULTIMATE BOND quiz that even beats me ! Right page advert for London Bond exhibition.
Finally in the review section, two pages are devoted to the BOND MOVIES! with 20 DVDs ( including NSNA) split into 5 sections: MIDAS TOUCH, COLD WAR, TOY TOWN, DEEP COVER & GA-GA and given a text review plus 5 star rating.
Goldfinger is only one to get full marks with Moonraker, Octopussy and surprisingly TLD getting bottom rating of 2 stars !
The bonus is a 'free' Bond Girls Calendar ( 30cm x 30cm ) with January & December ladies getting double pages:
Jan - Andress, Feb - Auger,
Mar - St John, Apr - Ekland,
May - Munro, Jun - Adams,
Jul - Soto, Aug - Scorupco,

Each month has a large photo with below text: the actress' name, Bond role & film,
3 section paragraphs: BEFORE BOND, IN BOND and AFTER BOND plus a circle insert photo from their film.
All quality glossy off-duty photos, Auger's is a bit puzzling, Soto's a delight naked and black dressed Yeoh's makes my birthday month.
Top marks to T F.
So worth tracking down the publishers as a must for all Bond fans.
- Hotdog Issue 30 UK Price £ 2.99
Encased in a Sean Connery cardboard envelope, you will find their December dated issue with DAD and other Bond features.
As you see the Brosnan gun pointing photo is an old photo, "the m007ie magazine" has the following content:
Page
- 8: Contents page with each Bond item highlighted with a movie photo.
- 9: Colour page photo of GE Brosnan in tux with gun.
- 16: In Rushes section, colour photo of Sean Connery with bubble caption "I'm back, baby, yeah! with heading of Connery Cameos In Bond 20?.
The item claimed Connery as Commander Bond, Senior filmed "a short scene - less than 20 seconds of screen time .. made it into a cut of DAD shown at a private screening for cast and crew on 7 October, where it was greeted with laughter and applause."
The "not-inconsiderable fee he'd been offered" was donated to charity.
Alas the scene, as we know, never made an appearance in the final-cut.
- 17: a third of the previous page and this one is devoted to Stunts, Spies And Micopore Tape and mentions Viv Armstrong's London lecture and lists movie stunts from Steamboat Bill, Jr ( 1928 ) to TWINE ( 1999 ).
A photo of the car roll in TMWTGG is seen.
- 34/5: Roger Moore turns up in a photo and article titled WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO... THE CANNONBALLERS FROM THE CANNONBALL RUN and looks at each of the photographed stars on set.
Rog is billed as playing SEYMOUR GOLDFARB/HIMSELF.
- 39: Cinema Reviews contents page has a gun-shooting photo of PB from DAD's hovercraft opening scene.
- 40/1: with 3 typical DAD photos and repeat of mini-GE Brosnan posture photo, the magazine is the only one with a full page review.
It's strange as DAD wasn't fully edited until the last minute so this must be based on a preview trial screening.
In the magazine's style, their MOVIE MATHS claims with photos: GE + TSWLM + [ GF's] A GIANT LAY-ZOR= DAD and a 3 star rating.
A small blue insert titled KILL ANOTHER CAREER looks at Bond singers.
- 58/9: Looks at THE MAKING OF DR NO with familiar photos from the video cover.
The right column looks at READY, STEADY, GO: THE BIRTH OF THE SIXTIES with photo of The Beatles and the DN poster charting their success with 007.
- 60/1: main story with Andress' quote "I've just been in Jamaica enjoying the sun, doing this crappy thriller ... everything was done so cheaply" in large text.
JBIFC's Matthew Field looks at THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GADGETS with a 2/3rd right page item on Desmond Q Llewelyn.
- 62: main story concludes.
- 63: full page advert of 007 nightfire video game.
- 64: Enlarged FRWL video cover photo of Connery and dodging a helicopter.
- 65: Field again looking at THE CONNERY LEGACY.

- 68: ends with insert THE MASHTER OF DISHGUISHE looking at 6 foreign roles for Sean.
- 70-73: 4 pages of tinted b&w photos from THE JAMES BOND FAN CLUB ( what happened to International ? ).
All the photos are taken on set relaxing or filming, one blooper has Connery's famous casino scene in DN captioned as Casino Royale !
- 74: Enlarged Octopussy video cover photo of Moore with adjacent train.
- 75: Bio co-author Gareth Owen looks at GIMME MOORE and Rog's contribution to the series helped by a right column item NOBODY DOES IT BETTER by the mag's editor.
- 76: Moore item concludes with photos.
- 78/9: The start of The Making of DAD with a page & half photo of ice car chase.
- 80/1: Report continues with movie photos, right half page given to THE KNOWN STUNTMAN looking at Vic Armstrong.
- 82: End of report stating that "later [to] become confirmed fact ... that Samantha Bond is calling it a day with this film and leaving her recurring role as Miss Moneypenny."
- 139: Mag competition to win Bond goodies.
Another one for the Bond mag collection !
- Collecting 007 No.19 UK Price: £ 4.95
This is the Winter issue of The James Bond Collectors Club magazine and is their DAD special.
As with previous issues colour is kept to the front ( DAD montage of items ) and back ( Bond toy advert ) covers.
Inside the 44 page magazine, the editorial recalls Peter Hunt who died in August with an accompanying right page photo.
The World News includes the London Bond Exhibition, Gareth Owen becoming Roger Moore's PA, the death of the real Q - Geoffrey Boothroyd and the JBIFC's closure ( now re-opened 01/03 ).
The next six pages are devoted to DAD tie-ins like the Omega watch, a 1:18 scale model of Vanquish, model figures, more watches named after the films from Swatch, more model cars this time from Corgi, trading cards etc.
The editor's 14 year-old son writes a short report of the world premiere of the stage musical of Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Next to this is a page and half report on the Bond Exhibition's March opening in Bradford ( now moved to London ) and Gareth Owen gets to mix with some Bond personnel.
Following pages include: Maude Adams visiting Beaulieu to see some Bond Boats, Owen's Moore co-author Oliver Bayan meets designer Ken Adam at his German Exhibition, April's Autographica report plus a night out for Lee Pfeiffer in New York with Richard Kiel.
A 12 page DAD special starts with posters ( not the same in b&w ), location photos including Iceland & Ice Palace filming, campaign posters and more tie-ins, magazines ( most reviewed here ), an early look at the the soundtrack featuring Madonna, the guns and a fan meets composer David Arnold during recording.
Another item on DAD's cars at the NEC Motor Show.
Later fan Robert Strudley goes in search of Jamaica's Bond locations ( doesn't include GoldenEye ).
More reports on June's James Bond Celebrity Golf Classic with stars and a lunch book launch for Richard Kiel with surprise guest Roger Moore attending.
Part 2 of Tim Browne's location hunt for Fleming's book Moonraker.
Regular features: 007 In Print looks at new books, the Letters section include fans meeting Bond stars and the end CLASSIFIED section includes an item on the LTK truck now owned by a building firm in Orpington - not far from me !
As the editor states the "club run by fans, for fans" continues to inform us of 007 collectables - shame still no internet section.
My continuing gripe for a little more colour wouldn't go amiss, perhaps from the increasing Back Issues prices ?
Still worth a read and addition to your DAD mags.
- 007 Magazine Issue 41 UK Price: £ unpriced
Back "after a 19-month hiatus", I was happy to be sent this 48 page September 2003 DAD special issue of the re-launched 007 Magazine with rope hanging Pierce Brosnan on the cover.
Alas poor Pierce is suffering from grey/blue face rash on my copy and not helped by some misplaced staples.
The Club have re-vamped the magazine logo by turning the black silhouette around making it look like Roger Moore has gone disco dancing instead of shooting his pistol !
Meanwhile inside the unpriced magazine ( back copies will set you back £10 or $20 ) you will find ...
- 2. Full cover photo of Harrod's window display for DAD with Halle's ice dress featured.
- 3. New look contents menu.
- 4. Editorial from a smiling Graham Rye titled TWICE IS THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE.
- 5. Magazine credits and short bios of 5 contributors.
- 6-21. Writer Matthew Field takes an in-depth look at the making of DAD titled " IT'S CALLED THE FUTURE SO GET USED TO IT! " helped with colour photos and quotes that alas I've heard on many of DAD's tv documentaries.
- 22-23. Marketing Around the World shows the different posters used to promote the Bond movie.
- 24-25. Centre pages of Press Day photos at 'D' Stage Pinewood Studios, 10:20 am January 11th 2002.
- 26-29. Andrew Pilkington looks at media coverage called 'LONDON CALLING'. Each page has a montage of magazine covers featuring the stars.
- 30-33. Greg Bechtloff does a similar job with stateside coverage and magazine covers called 'SOME KIND OF HERO!'.
- 34-39. BETTER THAN LOOKING CLEVERER THAN YOU ARE? is Rye's opinion of the movie which is sub-titled as ".. the dire DAD - probably the worst James Bond film of the series?"
His item includes a near full page of A LITTLE EXPOSITION WORKS WONDERS looking at DMZ, Conflict Diamonds and 'The Art of War'.
- 40-42. Ajay Chowdhury's opinion called NOT HIS TIME TO GO counter argues that "... To adapt is to survive."
- 43-46 Matthew Field's half page report on DAD's THE WORLD PREMIERE followed with a double page montage of photos from the big night.
Spot the blooper .. it took place on "November 18th 2003" ( really ! .. was it a re-run ? ) at "THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL, Kensington Gore, London."
- 47. Chance to get last issue 40 of NSNA & Casino Royale.
- 48. Back page advert for DAD's DVD.
As Rye mentions you "either love it or loathe it" when considering DAD but his item annoyed me the most as he knit picked through every scene and came across as a 'grumpy old man'.
I agreed with all the writers DAD wasn't a classic but it wasn't a dud thanks to Brosnan but life moves on and you can't stay in a time warp like Mr Rye.
If life stopped after Connery, what the hell has he been writing about it in past issues ?
I usually praise his high standard of layouts but his overuse of tiny letterbox photos taken from the movie and featured in articles were a strain on the eye, no particular order and a waste of time e.g. pages 38 & 39.
If he wishes to continue charging a high price for his work, its 'club' fans will need something more otherwise they will use modern age technology like DVDs and websites for 007 info ( no pun intended on the club's URL ).
The 007 Magazine is no longer obtainable via the JBIFC's website.
